Service Subgroup

The former ‘Service’ subgroup of SSWG provided a specific forum from 1995 for staff involved in the provision of wheelchairs and special seating via the NHS, as well as since 1997 via the Scottish Rehabilitation Technology Provider’s Forum (ScotRET). The main goal of this grouip was to provide a route for communication with higher levels of NHS and Scottish Executive decision making.

Policy making and networking via this group was very valuable. Temporary working groups on various matters, such as wheelchair stability and planned preventive maintenance were convened to inform the subgroup.

However, in an attempt to move SSWG away from its previous NHS focus and to bring the structure into line with similar groups representing Prosthetics, Orthotics and Electronic Assistive Technology, this group was disbanded in 2003. The functions of this group are now carried out by a replacement body, the Wheelchairs subgroup of ScotRET.

The chair of the ScotRET wheelchairs subgroup is co-opted onto the SPMN committee if the subgroup is not otherwise represented on the SPMN committee.
